Pizza night

On Saturday night, we had food in House for supper.  Dave suggested home made pizza's so I got to work on making 5 batches of dough using the bread machine.

Four girls at a time came through to my kitchen and shaped their dough balls.  They then left them to rise for 15 minutes.  After this time they could top them with whatever they desired (nearly) and they were freshly cooked.

I had a really excellent time.  It was fun watching the girls trying to shape their dough into hearts or other random shapes.

Topping available: pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, onion, olives, grated cheese, sweetcorn, mozzarella cheese, pineapple and fresh home-grown basil

First up - Sami, Bipina and Rachana.  The girls rolling out their dough.

Prapti joins the group.  Rachana is being artistic - choosing to go for a 'heart' pizza

Rachana and Bipina choosing their toppings

How much can you get on one pizza?

Prapti loving the whole idea of freshly made pizza's

Rachana's is first out of the oven - still looking relatively heart shaped

Prapti still smiling - she hadn't realised how easy home-made pizza's could be

Bipina's pizza - looking like it's trying to escape?

Sami's pizza is going to keep her quiet for a while!
Next group - the Year 9s (and Jess). We have Lottie, India and Sarah starting to make their bases.  Jess becomes an honorary Summerhill-onian for the evening.
The thought going into this from Sarah is excellent to see.  It's good that she is taking this so seriously :)
Lottie goes for a good handful of cheese while Sarah is busy in the background

India enjoying adding her toppings
Jess started with the traditional tomato base
Sarah's definitely happy about her creation

Lottie's is looking good with a healthy portion of pineapple - definitely one of her 5 (or is it now 10?) a day

India - may have needed a slightly bigger base to contain her toppings?

Jess looking somewhat bemused by her creation
Year 11s start on their pizzas.  Jane, Olga, Edith and Kiera pose for their photo.

Edith and Olga start 'topping up'

Kiera choosing wisely.  You can't rush decisions like these.

Jane and Kiera.
Kiera's gone for a heart shape too.  She was very pleased with the outcome.  It did look good.

Olga's ready to eat

Edith's keeping an eye on hers

Jane - not sure what this shape is, if anything?

Year 10s step up.  Christy ("I don't like having my photo taken!"), Annabell, Vyara and honorary temporary boarder Claudia

I think Claudia is happy with her food

Annabell's pizza - the most 'normal' looking pizza yet!

Vyara going for looks as well as taste

Christy trying to ensure that even her parents cannot recognise her

The sixth form step up.  Kristy looks for tips from Angela.

Kristy's on the case now and knows exactly what shape she's going for.  Angela looking like a pro.

Kristy finishes off the olives.

(Not sure what happened with my camera here - sorry Kristy!)

Last pizza out of the oven - looking as good as the first.

I think pizza night was a huge success.  The girls really enjoyed making their own bases and choosing their own toppings.  Everyone was really good natured and even though I think I was supervising pizza making over about 2 to 3 hours it went really quickly and was excellent fun.  It's funny how people's personalities come out in the food they are making.

A really, heart felt 'thank you' girls for making the evening so good. Mrs B xx
