Senior Netball House matches - a report from a Physicist

It was a superb day.  After a foggy start, the sun broke out and made the conditions on the Upper lovely.  It was warn, it was sunny, it was uplifting.  Just like the team talk the Josie gave to the seconds to get them geared up for their first game.  I think it went along the lines of " I haven't played for three years.  You guys decided where you're playing".  Clearly, I'm no sports woman but this approach worked.  Who am I to question?

Team talk

Yes, Olga is winking - randomly

The firsts warm up - such an elite group.
So, first match started. The first team was playing School and the Seconds were playing Fonthill.

First team - talk tactics (apart from Meghan who has remembered we have a working dishwasher.  Look back.  It's the same face!)

In action shot.  Emily's had enough.

One of Niamh's many goals
Anna scores

Final scores 1st Summerhill v School 18 - 8
2nd Summerhill v Fonthill 16 - 4

Clearly, all good from our point of view.

Next round, the seconds get a breather for good behaviour.  The firsts are against Fonthill and the Seconds game is School v Fonthill.

 Orla lines up to score

Now is not the time to be line dancing

Amazing camera work - and quite a good goal too
The seconds support the firsts.  (Is Edith winking now??)

Final scores 1st Summerhill v Fonthill  18 - 7
2nd School v Fonthill  13 - 9

Third and final round.  The tension mounts for the seconds.  The first have nailed it and are in support mode.  1st team game is School v Fonthill and the Seconds Summerhill v School.

For this game - I have no photo's.  Can't remember the decision I came to that meant I have no photographic evidence of the game.  You're going to have to trust me that it was a good game.  Especially the first half.  School were hungry to win and were going for it all guns blazing.  Summerhill just about were on top at half time winning 6-5 but there really was nothing in it.  Mrs Reeman was ferocious with the whistle - especially with centre passes and this caught a lot of people out on numerous occasions.  The score does not really reflect how good the games was.  But ultimately, with an inspiring half time team talk from me (I think I said they needed to score more goals than School.  Just putting it out there) we won.

Final scores 1st teams School v Fonthill  14 - 11
Second team Summerhill v School  16 - 8

So in summary.  It was a gorgeous day.  The atmosphere was spot on - competitive but friendly.

Summerhill came first with both teams.  School came second in both teams.  Fonthill came third in both teams.

1st team players of the matches were Anna and Georgia.
2nd team players of the matches were Niamh and Sarah.
(I don't know who decided this - I was just told)

Personally I had an excellent time.  Everyone played their part and gave their best which is all anyone can ever ask for.

Well done girls.
