Summerhill support the Lifeline Trust

On Saturday, we delivered all the presents the boarders has collected to donate to the homeless of Bath.  On reflection we realised that none of us really needed £5 more of socks / soap / chocolate that we would receive from Secret Santa.  Instead, we spent the money on blankets / hats / gloves and gave them away as presents to make some one else's day a little better.

Lifeline is a charity which works out of the vaults of the Abbey.  On Saturday it is open from 10am-12noon serving food and warm drinks to those who really need it.  We were lucky enough to chat to some of the volunteers and meet some of the customers.  We were also able to donate 'aeroplane toothbrushes and paste' and 'hotel shampoos'.  Apparently, these are particularly useful.

We did not want the visit to appear condescending, or as though we had solved problems by donating a blanket, but hopefully we have made a little bit of a difference to someone instead of us adding to the amount of clutter in our lives.

A huge thank-you to all those boarders who participated.  Bigger and better next year?
Love, Mrs B x

Year 9 sleepover

Tonight saw the annual Year 9 sleepover.  All the days girls came over to spend the night in the boarding house.  After joining us for supper and prep, we went back to Summerhill.  The girls quickly got in to their pj's and settled down in front of the tv - briefly.  At one stage there was a game of Twister while The Lego Movie was on.  They ate chocolate and put the world to rights.  (please note that the boys were only there briefly until they went back to their boarding houses at 9pm).

Year 10 / 11 ball

Saturday was the annual Year 10 and 11 ball.  The girls had been looking forward to this for weeks.  There have been dresses paraded, checking shoes etc for a long time.  We had the Christmas tree up so everything was in place to make it a special evening.  As all funds raised were donated to Open Arms, Malawi, some of the people going on this trip were there to act as waiters and waitresses for the meal.  After the food the students went through to the theatre to a disco.

Everyone came back having had an excellent time.
